This page collects the credits and licence notices for the third-party open-source and open-data components used in parts of the Acuris website and demo tools.

Royal Mail PAF® (UK addresses)

Acuris's UK address validation, UK postcode lookup and related UK services are built using the Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF®) under licence. Acuris GmbH is a licensed Royal Mail PAF® Solutions Provider.

Contains PAF® data. © Royal Mail copyright and database right 2026.
PAF® and Royal Mail are registered trademarks of Royal Mail Group Ltd.

Use of UK address data returned by Acuris is subject to the Royal Mail PAF® End User Terms. Further licence information is published by Royal Mail at poweredbypaf.com.

Ordnance Survey (UK UPRN)

Where Acuris returns a UPRN (Unique Property Reference Number) for UK addresses, that identifier is derived from OS Open UPRN, published by Ordnance Survey under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right 2026.

ONS National Statistics UPRN Lookup (UK enrichment)

The free UK geographic enrichment block — output area, LSOA, MSOA, local authority, ward, Westminster parliamentary constituency, region, country, rural–urban classification and police force area — is derived from the National Statistics UPRN Lookup (NSUL), published by the Office for National Statistics on the Open Geography Portal under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and joined to the UPRN already returned with each UK address.

NSUL covers Great Britain only. Northern Ireland addresses validate normally but carry no enrichment block: Northern Ireland statistical geography is licensed separately by Land & Property Services and is not included here.

Contains Royal Mail data © Royal Mail copyright and Database right 2026.
Contains GeoPlace data © Local Government Information House Limited copyright and database right 2026.

OpenStreetMap

The interactive map previews shown on Acuris demo dashboards (e.g. the validation and geocoding test forms) render their street base-map tiles from the OpenStreetMap tile network. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Esri World Imagery (satellite base map)

When the demo map previews are switched to satellite view, the aerial / satellite base-map tiles are rendered from Esri World Imagery. Tiles © Esri — Source: Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics, USGS, AeroGRID, IGN, USDA FSA, Microsoft, and the GIS User Community.

swisstopo (Switzerland addresses)

Acuris's address validation and geocoding for Switzerland is built on the Amtliches Verzeichnis der Gebäudeadressen (Official directory of building addresses), published as free open government data by the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. Liechtenstein addresses are included from the Swiss Post addressing directory.

Contains data from the official Swiss building-address directory. © swisstopo

swisstopo geodata is provided for free open use; the only condition is acknowledgement of the source. See swisstopo — official building-address directory.

ANNCSU — Italy (address coordinates)

Part of Acuris's Italian address validation and geocoding incorporates civic-address coordinates from ANNCSU (Archivio Nazionale dei Numeri Civici delle Strade Urbane), the national archive of street addresses and civic numbers published by ISTAT and the Agenzia delle Entrate, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

Contains ANNCSU data © ISTAT / Agenzia delle Entrate, licensed under CC BY 4.0. The data has been modified: coordinates are matched to Acuris address records and converted into the Acuris response format.

CartoCiudad & Catastro — Spain (address coordinates)

Acuris's Spanish address validation and geocoding incorporates address entrance points from CartoCiudad, published by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), and building coordinates derived from the INSPIRE services of the Dirección General del Catastro.

© Instituto Geográfico Nacional de España (CartoCiudad). Information derived from the Dirección General del Catastro (sedecatastro.gob.es). The data has been modified: points are matched to Acuris address records and joined to building geometry.

Department of Posts & GeoNames — India (address coordinates)

Acuris's Indian address validation and geocoding is being extended to draw postal-locality coordinates from the All India Pincode Directory, published by the Department of Posts, Government of India, and populated-place coordinates from GeoNames. The required licence acknowledgements are published here in advance of that data reaching production.

Contains information from the All India Pincode Directory, Department of Posts, Government of India, published under the Government Open Data Licence – India (GODL): data.gov.in/government-open-data-license-india.
Contains data from GeoNames (https://www.geonames.org), licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Overture Maps — India (landmark coordinates)

Acuris's Indian address validation and geocoding is being extended to place an address near a landmark the caller themselves names ("opposite Swami Samarth Math", "near City Mall") when the address itself resolves no further than a postcode or locality. The named places behind that lookup come from the Overture Maps Foundation places data. A result produced this way is labelled landmark_proximity and names the landmark it used. The acknowledgement is published here in advance of that data reaching production.

Contains data from the Overture Maps Foundation (release 2026-07-22.0), licensed under the Community Data License Agreement – Permissive, Version 2.0 (CDLA-Permissive-2.0). The data has been modified: places are normalized, matched to Indian PIN codes and converted into the Acuris response format.

Official enrichment sources (free geography & demographics)

The free enrichment block that Acuris attaches to validated addresses in supported countries is derived from the following official open-data sources. Each API response containing enrichment also carries its own source acknowledgement.

Licence summary

Acuris API outputs for most countries (validated addresses, coordinates) are produced from Acuris's own reference database and do not carry a third-party attribution requirement. The exceptions are noted above: UK results incorporate Royal Mail PAF® and Ordnance Survey data, Swiss results incorporate swisstopo building-address data, Italian results incorporate ANNCSU civic-address coordinates (© ISTAT / Agenzia delle Entrate, CC BY 4.0), Spanish results incorporate CartoCiudad (© IGN) and Catastro-derived coordinates, the free enrichment blocks incorporate the official statistical and boundary sources listed above, and the rendered base-map tiles on demo pages carry the OpenStreetMap (street) and Esri World Imagery (satellite) attributions. The All India Pincode Directory (© Department of Posts, Government of India, GODL), GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) and Overture Maps Foundation (CDLA-Permissive-2.0) acknowledgements above are published ahead of that data's production rollout for India.
