Royal Mail PAF® End User Terms
Applies to UK address data returned by Acuris services. Last updated: May 29, 2026.
About these terms
Acuris's UK address validation, UK postcode lookup and related UK services incorporate the Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF®). Acuris GmbH is a licensed Royal Mail PAF® Solutions Provider. When you use an Acuris service that returns UK address data you do so as an End User of PAF® data, and your use is subject to these End User Terms, which Royal Mail requires us to pass on to you. These terms supplement our general Terms of service.
Contains PAF® data. © Royal Mail copyright and database right 2026.
PAF® and Royal Mail are registered trademarks of Royal Mail Group Ltd.
1. Permitted use
You may use PAF® data within Acuris services in accordance with these End User Terms — principally to capture, verify and correct address details. Your rights are personal, limited and non-transferable.
2. Conditions of use
- You must not make copies of PAF® data except as permitted by these terms or as reasonably necessary for back-up, security, business continuity and system testing.
- You must not supply PAF® data, or provide access to it, to any third party, except as expressly permitted by these terms.
- You must not transfer, assign, sell or licence the service or PAF® data, or use them to create a product or service distributed or sold to a third party that relies on PAF® data.
- You must not copy, reproduce, extract, re-utilise or publish PAF® data, except as these terms permit.
- You must not display or communicate PAF® data to the public, except for the purpose of capturing or confirming the address details of third parties (for example, an address-capture field at checkout).
- You must not remove or obscure any notice of Royal Mail's intellectual property rights in PAF® data, and you must reproduce the acknowledgement above where you display PAF® data.
3. Sub-contractors
You may allow your sub-contractors to use PAF® data only to the extent necessary to provide IT services to you, or to act on your behalf, in each case for your own business purposes and not those of the sub-contractor. Each sub-contractor must observe these restrictions, and you remain responsible for any breach by them.
4. Royal Mail's rights
You acknowledge that Royal Mail Group Ltd is the owner of the intellectual property rights in PAF® data and the PAF® brand, and that you acquire no rights in them other than as set out in these terms. Royal Mail does not warrant the accuracy or completeness of PAF® data, and all warranties and conditions implied by law are excluded to the maximum extent permitted.
5. Ending use
If your right to use PAF® data ends (for example, if your Acuris subscription or these terms terminate), you must cease using PAF® data and destroy any copies you hold, except for one copy that may be retained for archival, legal or compliance purposes.
6. Your users
If you make Acuris's UK services available to your own users, you must ensure these End User Terms bind them, that only those users exercise the rights granted, and that their rights end when yours do.
7. Enforcement
Royal Mail may enforce these terms against you directly and may recover from Acuris any losses caused by your breach. Acuris may, and on Royal Mail's request must, suspend or terminate your access to UK / PAF® data if you breach these terms and do not remedy the breach within the period required by Royal Mail.
