Agreement
By creating an account, calling the API, or using related websites, you agree to these terms and our Privacy policy.
The service
We provide address validation, geocoding, and related APIs on an “as available” basis. Outputs depend on reference data and algorithms; they are not guaranteed error-free. You are responsible for your use in compliance with law (including marketing, credit, and data-protection rules in your sector).
API keys & acceptable use
API keys are confidential. You must not resell or share keys in ways that breach your plan. You must not abuse the service (e.g. circumvent rate limits, attack infrastructure, or use the API to build a substantially similar competing database by systematic extraction — see Anti-scraping & bulk extraction below).
The free tier is provided for your internal, non-commercial evaluation and use. You may use it in a commercial product only if you display a permanent, visible attribution linking back to acuris-geo.com wherever the data or results are shown to your own users (for example, "Address data by Acuris" with a link to https://www.acuris-geo.com). Removing or hiding this attribution while continuing to use the free tier is a breach of these terms.
Your data & permitted retention
“Output Data” means the validation, correction, geocoding and enrichment results the API returns for addresses you submit in the ordinary, end-user-driven course of using the service. You may store, retain, cache and use Output Data for your own internal business purposes — including after your subscription ends — and may display an individual result back to the end user it relates to (for example, confirming an address at checkout). This section is your primary licence to retain results; the restriction on caching in Anti-scraping & bulk extraction below applies to systematic extraction of our reference data, not to Output Data retained under this section.
You must not, however, resell, sub-licence, publish, or otherwise supply Output Data to any third party as a dataset or data feed, nor use it to build, populate, or train a database, product, model or service made available to third parties. Submitting your own address records for validation, correction, geocoding or enrichment — one at a time, by file upload, or through our Excel add-in or batch endpoints — is ordinary use of the service and is covered by the retention licence above, whatever the volume. What requires a separate bulk data licence is ingestion of the Acuris reference data itself (as distinct from results for records you supply), offline geocoding against a copy of our data, and training models on our data — contact sales@acuris-geo.com.
Some Output Data is derived from third-party licensed reference data (for example, UK Royal Mail PAF® and Ordnance Survey data). Your retention right above is subject to those providers’ terms, which may require you to cease use of and destroy the affected Output Data if your right to use the underlying data ends — see Third-party data licences below and our PAF® End User Terms. Where those terms conflict with this section, they prevail for the affected data.
Input you submit
The section above governs Output Data we return to you. Separately, we log the address, email, and phone-number text and related request data submitted to the API — whether as a single call, a batch, or an asynchronous job — see our Privacy policy for what is logged, the legal basis, and how long it is kept. We reserve the right to use this submitted input (a) to detect errors, improve address matching, and improve our reference data, and (b) to detect, investigate, and prevent systematic extraction, scraping, or other abuse of the service, including the patterns described in Anti-scraping & bulk extraction below. We do not sell, publish, license, or otherwise supply submitted input to third parties as a dataset or feed.
Anti-scraping & bulk extraction
The Acuris reference databases are our proprietary assets and the Acuris API is licensed for lookups of records you supply. You must not systematically query, scrape, mirror, or otherwise extract Acuris content with the intent of reconstructing all or a material portion of the underlying reference data, nor cache or retain Acuris content beyond the limited retention of your own Output Data permitted under Your data & permitted retention above — whether for internal redistribution, resale, public dataset publication, or training of third-party models or geocoding services. "Systematic" extraction includes, without limitation: bulk enumeration of postcodes, streets, ranges of house numbers, administrative areas, or coordinate grids; iterating known address dictionaries against the API to mirror the underlying database; reverse-geocoding sweeps over geographic tiles; and any access pattern materially inconsistent with end-user request volume on a Customer-facing application.
To detect and deter unauthorized extraction, Acuris and/or its data partners may include a limited number of seed records — distinctive, traceable entries embedded in the reference data — and may monitor third-party services, public datasets, and downstream offerings for the appearance of these records. Resale, public exposure, or model training using any seed record found outside an authorized customer's Permitted Use is conclusive evidence of breach and may result in immediate suspension, termination, charge-back of fees waived under prior arrangements, and legal action including injunctive relief and damages. Seed records do not affect normal end-user lookups; they exist solely as a tripwire for unauthorized bulk use.
If you require a bulk data licence for ingestion of Acuris reference data into your own database — for offline geocoding against a copy of our data, or training of AI models on our data — contact sales@acuris-geo.com. Bulk extraction outside of such a licence is a material breach of these terms and we reserve all rights, including under copyright, database-rights legislation (Directive 96/9/EC and equivalents), unfair-competition, and contract law.
Third-party data licences (UK / Royal Mail PAF®)
Some Acuris services incorporate data licensed from third parties. In particular, Acuris's UK address validation, UK postcode lookup and related UK services are built using the Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF®), licensed to Acuris GmbH as a Royal Mail PAF® Solutions Provider.
By using any Acuris service that returns UK address data, you agree to be bound by the Royal Mail PAF® End User Terms as an End User, and you must ensure your own users comply with them. In summary, those terms require that you do not copy PAF® data except as permitted, do not extract or supply PAF® data to third parties outside the permitted uses, do not re-sell or sub-licence the data, retain Royal Mail's ownership notices, and cease use of and destroy PAF® data if your right to use it ends. Royal Mail does not warrant the accuracy or completeness of PAF® data. Royal Mail may enforce these terms against you and Acuris may suspend or terminate your access to UK data if you breach them. UK UPRN identifiers are derived from Ordnance Survey OS Open UPRN under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Required acknowledgements are set out on our Attributions page.
Pricing, billing & service-limit changes
Billing is based on the plan you choose on our Pricing page. We offer both monthly subscription plans that include monthly allowances (metered separately for address validation, geocoding and email verification) and pay-as-you-go transaction packs that you purchase in advance, where each address validation or geocode lookup consumes one transaction. A time-limited free trial is also available. We may change pricing or service limits. For paid plans, we will provide at least thirty (30) days’ notice via email before changes take effect. Free-tier limits may change at any time.
Disclaimer & liability
To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to these terms shall not exceed the fees paid by you to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, special, or punitive damages.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate access for breach, risk, or non-payment. For free-tier accounts, we may additionally suspend or terminate access at our sole discretion, at any time, without obligation to provide a reason. You may stop using the service at any time.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Germany. Disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of Frankfurt, Germany. The parties waive any right to a jury trial.
