UK PAF Evaluation Terms
Version 1.0 · 11 October 2026 · Applies to free UK evaluation access to Acuris Geo.
About these terms
These UK PAF Evaluation Terms (“Evaluation Terms”) are an agreement between Acuris GmbH, Hammanstr. 1, 67549 Worms, Germany (registered at Amtsgericht Mainz, HRB 54555) (“Acuris”, “we”, “us”) and the organisation or developer that creates an Acuris Geo account or requests an API key for evaluation (“you”, the “Evaluator”).
You accept them, together with our Terms of service, by ticking the box “I agree to the Acuris Geo Terms of Service and the UK PAF Evaluation Terms” when you register, when you request a developer key, or when you accept them in your console. We record the date, time and version of your acceptance.
UK address data returned by Acuris is derived from the Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF®). Acuris GmbH is a licensed Royal Mail PAF® Solutions Provider. Your use of that data is also subject to the Royal Mail PAF® End User Terms, which we are required to pass on to you and which apply in full during the evaluation. These Evaluation Terms add to the End User Terms; they do not replace them. If the two conflict, the End User Terms prevail for PAF® data.
1. Purpose and scope
We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable and temporary right to access the Acuris Geo UK services (UK address validation, UK autocomplete and UK postcode lookup) solely to test them internally, to develop and test your integration, and to assess technical feasibility.
2. What the evaluation allows
- Allowance: up to 5 UK lookups per UTC day per key. An autocomplete keystroke is free; a selected or validated UK address, or a UK postcode lookup, is one UK transaction.
- Not for production: you must not use an evaluation key in a live production environment, in a monetised application, or where it is available to people outside your own testing. For live use, buy a UK transaction pack (see pricing).
- No bulk extraction: you must not use scripts, scrapers or high-volume queries to extract, harvest, store or re-create all or a substantial part of PAF® data or any regional subset of it.
- No redistribution: you must not sell, re-sell, sub-license, host or supply PAF® data or API responses to any third party.
- Royal Mail’s rules: everything else about how PAF® data may be used is set out in the PAF® End User Terms.
3. Attribution
Where you display UK address data from Acuris, including in a test or preview interface, you must reproduce this acknowledgement, exactly as on our Attributions page:
Contains PAF® data. © Royal Mail copyright and database right 2026.
PAF® and Royal Mail are registered trademarks of Royal Mail Group Ltd.
4. API keys and public code
- You are responsible for keeping your API keys secret.
- You must never commit or publish an API key in a public repository, in sample client-side code or in open-source software (for example on GitHub or GitLab). Sample code must use a placeholder such as
ACURIS_API_KEY = "YOUR_EVALUATION_KEY". We revoke evaluation keys we find in public repositories.
5. Duration and ending
- Evaluation period: UK access under these Evaluation Terms ends 90 days after you accepted them, or earlier when the key itself expires, unless we extend it in writing.
- Keys issued before these Evaluation Terms: free UK access on such a key continues until 90 days after the key was created, and in any case for at least 14 days after we begin enforcing the evaluation period. Accepting these Evaluation Terms in the console starts a new 90-day period from the date of acceptance.
- Limits and suspension: we may throttle, suspend or revoke an evaluation key if we see unusual or abusive traffic, a breach of these Evaluation Terms or of the End User Terms, or if Royal Mail asks us to.
- When the evaluation ends: your right to query UK data under these Evaluation Terms ends at once. You must stop using, and destroy, any PAF® data you kept from the evaluation, as the PAF® End User Terms (section 5) require, unless you have bought UK access by then.
- Termination: we may end your evaluation at any time. When it ends, for any reason, the previous point applies.
6. Intellectual property and no warranty
Royal Mail Group Ltd owns all rights in PAF® data. Acuris GmbH keeps all rights in the Acuris Geo API, its software and its developer tools. The evaluation service and the data are provided “as is” and “as available” for evaluation only, without any promise of availability, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose.
7. Liability
The evaluation is free of charge. Acuris GmbH is liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act, where we have fraudulently concealed a defect, and where we have expressly given a guarantee. For slight negligence we are liable only for the breach of an essential contractual obligation (an obligation whose fulfilment makes proper performance possible in the first place and on which you may regularly rely), and then only for the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of evaluation. We are not liable for slight negligence in any other case. Nothing in these Evaluation Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Because the evaluation is for testing, you should not rely on the evaluation service or its results in a live system; for live use, buy UK access.
8. Personal data
We process your account and usage data as described in our Privacy policy, including the record of your acceptance of these Evaluation Terms (version, date and time). The evaluation is for testing with sample or test addresses. Do not submit addresses or other personal data of your customers or other third parties unless you need to in order to test your integration, and in that case only the minimum. Addresses and coordinates you send to the evaluation service are processed by Acuris GmbH as controller to return the result, to operate and secure the service, to prevent abuse and to improve our address matching, as described in the Privacy policy, which also states your rights and how to contact us. You are responsible for having a legal basis under the GDPR for any personal data you send to us.
9. Governing law and changes
These Evaluation Terms are governed by the law of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from these Evaluation Terms is Frankfurt am Main, Germany. If you are a consumer, the statutory rules on jurisdiction and the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country where you live remain unaffected.
We may publish a new version of these Evaluation Terms. Each version carries its own number and date; the version you accepted is the one recorded for your account or key.
